Today in my curriculum, I accomplished...a multi-sensory, differentiated lesson. December in my curriculum, I plan to continue working toward the completion of the collaborative unit.
I accomplished collaborating with my colleagues and exploring different types of formative assessments to be used across the curriculum. We are hoping to finalize the backward design on math practices in December.
Today in my curriculum, I accomplished a great deal of collaboration with my department members related to formative assessment strategies used in our classes and presented in the mini lesson hosted by Jennifer Marten. We used those discussions to further our progress on our UBD unit and are hoping to finalize the unit in December.
Today our department finished our UBD unit focusing on the 8 math practices within the common core. Now we have a clear idea of how to proceed in our efforts to increase the awareness of those practices within our classes, and will be implementing those ideas.
Today in my curriculum I accomplished a great deal of collaboration with my colleagues on formative assessment ideas related to our project. December in my curriculum I plan to finalize the unit project we've been working on.
I have enjoyed attending the mini-lessons. Today I attended Kay Tharp's presentation on SMART Response. The math department reviewed/discussed previous work on our UBD project. Our project design is complete and implementation continues.
Today in my curriculum, I accomplished a good collaboration with my department concerning assessment strategies for our project. I also attended an informative workshop about the 6 facets of understanding and GRASP. In December, I am hoping to review and finalize our backward design unit.
Worked on SMART Notebook Response to create formative and summative assessments. Collaborated with team to review and make ongoing changes to our backward design unit.
Today in our curriculum, we accomplished a lot of collaboration with my department members related to formative assessment strategies used in our classes. We shared out with each other what we learned in our mini lessons. In December, we hope to finalize our UBD 8 Math Practices Unit
Today in my curriculum I accomplished continued work on our project. We collaborated on pre-assessment, formative assessment and GRASPS. December in my curriculum I plan to reflect and utilize the 8 Common Core math practices.
Today we worked on Industrialization Unit Assessment (and some work on Progressive Unit). Researched articles, including finding and differentiating articles for students. Continued to tie in Backward Design ideas.
We worked on UbD units that we are starting and doing presently. We also started looking at future units that we can tie together as a department. These work period are very productive.
Today in my curriculum I accomplished laying the groundwork for revamping a second semester unit "The Cold War" and aligning the unit to the UBD design. In December, I will continue to move forward on my backward design unit. Goal is to have it completed for implementation around March 1.
Today in my curriculum work, I accomplished creating learning activities for my UBD unit. I was able to find articles for my students to read related to my learning targets. In December I plan to finalize this unit. I appreciate the time to work on my curriculum!!!!
Today in my curriculum I began converting some of my Advanced Speech units into the Backwards Design template. In December, I will continue to work through this process.
As indicated in my previous post, I continued to format the Advanced Speech units into the Backwards Design template, specifically the Informative Speech unit. It is still a work in progress that I hope to continue during the next Early Release session.
Today our department almost finished putting our spreadsheet together with the new CTE standards and our culinary classes. We are working on the road map for future curriculum work.
In October, I used backward design to create an Area Studies unit on Israel and the Palestinians. Today I used some of the same strategies in an upcoming unit focusing on other countries in the Middle-east. In December, I will probably do the same with a different unit. This is one class that always needs updating, so what kids are learning reflects the current situation.
I the Dec. early release time, I created a formative assessment for the Middle-east (the re-do version). If kids want to re-do the formative assessment they can. This way, the formative assessment really acts as summative assessment.
Today I had time to process what we planned this morning. Now, I have an idea what I need to teach the argument process for the fracking unit. Thanks Claire for the help.
Tomorrow is the day we find out if it worked. The writing and research and arguments have been impressive. So today I went over our final rubric so I can grade more easily tomorrow. I am also reviewing what I want to do for our poetry unit and what I might want to do with Claire and Lucu Calkins stuff.
Today I continued working on a new BD unit, "understanding life through sports literature." In October, I fleshed out the "desired results section," and today I focused on determining summative assessment evidence and looking for lesson and formative assessment ideas. In December, I hope to complete the unit for immediate implementation.
I spent today looking back at texts and activities I had planned for the unit and realized I needed to rethink my short story choice. I spent some time reading a few short stories that might show how we can learn life lessons through participation in organized sports, and I found one strong possibility. I also further developed some ideas for the summative assessment. Once again, I found the work time highly valuable.
Spent time working on my BD unit and meet with the science department and Jennifer and Dan discussing Food science 2, AP environmental science, and the new BIO PLTW class. Set up field trip to Sargento and meeting with Marion to help design these units.
Today I worked on putting together a pre-assessment for having students make a persuasive argument with evidence. In December, we are looking for our science department to take a tour of Sargento foods. Jenny
Today in my curriculum I accomplished...Met with the Science Dept and administration about future science courses offered at PHS in conjunction with the Food Science and Agriculture Center.
December in my curriculum I plan to ....go with the Science Dept members and some members of the Food Science and Agriculture Center on a tour of Sargento in hopes to get a better understanding of the food science in industry and applications for the course to be offered.
In addition, Jenny, Brett, Carrie and Chuck worked on Differentiation Units
Today Brett, Carrie, Jenny & I worked on bagging differentiation sites for our professional development and incorporation into our units. After this we met w/ administration & Gale Litt to discuss the potential curricula for the Agricultural and Food Science Center from the science perspective. We got a chance to share our ideas and create committees to investigate/develop curricla for AP Env Ed and Food Science 2 as well as discussions about potential courses not yet on the table. In December prior to the early release we will be meeting to get the Food Science 1 tour and discussions and then on our Early Release day we will be investigating an area food science business - Sargento - by taking a field trip there. This will be used to springboard into more detailed discussions regarding curriculum.
I completed a ubd design for a unit in my class. I think this process helps me make certain the learning activities that I use in my classes ultimately lead to the learning that I want. It helps eliminate activities that may be good activities, but may not be appropriate for the learning targets.
Today I continued my work with my Backwards Design Templates. Again, my goal is to cover all of my units, within 6 classes...but, I'm off to a slow start. Presently I'm working on a unit relating to drawing simple forms with shadow and light...a pretty necessary skill for realistic drawing. I was absent for the November early release.
